As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” – Luke 11:27-28 (NIV).
Are you a mother who one day dreams of your child doing great things? They are still so young and cute and you want them to stay that way, but you know they won’t so you want their future to be 🔆. Or are you that mom who’s child in entering into adulthood and you want them to become gainfully employed and hopefully moving out of the house? I mean you love them, but their “cute” days are over and you need some me time. We get it moms and we don’t wrong you (smile). Most of all you want to be proud of your child, and you are! I’m sure that Mary, the Mother of Jesus was pretty proud of Him, don’t yah think?!
The woman who called out to Jesus after witnessing Him caste out a demon and challenge the Pharisees sure thought He was someone to be proud of. She called Mary blessed. However, Jesus replied that it was rather a blessing to hear the Word (will) of God and do it. Jesus didn’t mean it wasn’t a blessing to be a mother, but the principal thing is not being a mother but hearing and doing God’s will, which is the Word of God.
So if you are a mother AND you are doing the will of God. How blessed are you?!! You better go ahead with your blessed self. In this scripture though, He is including everyone who does the will of God but aren’t mothers (or fathers)… yet . You are blessed too. Well, Amen and Hallelujah to that!!!
Oh, and Happy #MothersDay to all you mommies out their (biological, adoptive, foster, godmommie, etc.)
